Bronze with shaded brown patina, bearing the annotation:
"Siege of Paris / Model of the wounded horse / made in 1884".
Signed on the terrace: "Vve EMeissonier".
Marked on the front: "Paris 1893".
Marked on the side: "P. Bingen fondeur".
Inlaid copper stamp on the terrace, showing a profile of Meissonier by Chaplain.

Wax model created by Ernest Meissonnier for the painting Le siège de Paris 1870-1871 (Musée d'Orsay), in which the horse is shown in the same position but three-quarters forward. Bronze print made by his widow in 1893, after inheriting six of these models, including this "wounded horse" and "General Duroc at Castiglione".
