SEINE LEAD. Lead statuette depicting a bishop with stylized - Lot 196
SEINE LEAD. Lead statuette depicting a bishop with stylized crosses. Probably 16th century. H. 9.8 cm. On a marble base. The term "plombs de Seine" is used to describe small lead statuettes representing tall, helmeted and armed figures found during dredging of the Seine. These were ex-voto statuettes that pilgrims arriving at Notre-Dame used to throw into the Seine to make a wish.
