On another leaflet appearing printed: "I was very touched by the sentiments expressed in the address of the inhabitants of Pont St Esprit. May their wishes and hopes, which are the wishes and hopes of all faithful hearts, soon be realized for the happiness of our common homeland! I entrust M. de Villeperdrix and his two sons, in conveying to their compatriots the expressions of my gratitude, to repeat to them at the same time my intentions, and to be to them the interpreters of my most sincere affection.
